Islands of Sanity in Dark Days

In a nutshell, the Gnostic Gospels shows Jesus to have said:

'People are born out of darkness, they will return to darkness when they die, and choose to spend the time in between either drunk or asleep.'
The Gnostic Gospels by Elaine Pagels

Nowadays that entails alcohol, drugs, junk media or full-time consumerism. Or, of course, several forms of unconsciousness  at once.

and also said:

'The road to awakening is Self Knowledge.' I.e. the answers can be found within ourselves.

A twenty year old person might try to save people from perpetual darkness by telling them a twenty year old's perception of the truth. And they might survive the the violent response - holding a full length mirror in front of a rhino has never been wise.

A thirty year old might seek to awaken them through cunning works of art, comedy, and similar. And be disregarded or misunderstood. Or both.
Nag Hammadi Scriptures, Gnostic texts from followers of Jesus

A forty year old, resigned to the darkness, will hope to found an island of sanity in a peaceful location where victims of the Darkness can recover. And be frustrated by the total monopoly land, housing and capital ownership engineered by Pathological Wealth, as they weep in self-pity since they don't (yet) own everything and everyone, through their carefully engineered Universal Debt.

A fifty year old, lacking funds but wiser, will try to found an Island of Sanity within the community by connecting like-minded individuals. And be defeated by the Unconscious power drives and the "more Chiefs than Indians" syndrome.

A sixty year old may realise the truth, regain Hope through Enlightenment ... and become and Island of Sanity ... one room will do.
